Brothers Mark, Erik and Ken Schumann have played together since early childhood; the quartet is named for them, not for the composer.

- Jürgen Ponto Foundation award, 2014
- Coached by the Alban Berg Quartet
- Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, Musikverein
“With no ifs or buts, the ‘Schumanns’ are among the best quartets in the world.”
Upcoming events
Violist Matthew McDowell completes the group. They learned from Eberhard Feltz and the Alban Berg Quartet, and played with Menahem Pressler. Their album Intermezzo, with soprano Anna-Lucia Richter, won a 2019 Opus Klassik.
Fragment, devoted to Schubert, followed, then a 1923 programme made with Bayerischer Rundfunk. The Süddeutsche Zeitung counts them, with no ifs or buts, among the best quartets in the world. This season takes them to Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw and the Musikverein, and in November to the US, Lincoln Center included.
In Portland they give two evenings with two programmes; the second ends with Tchaikovsky's First Quartet.
