The three Schumann brothers have played together since childhood, and violist Matthew McDowell became the quartet’s fourth member. The quartet’s name is their surname, not a tribute to the composer Robert Schumann. The first evening features Wolf’s Italian Serenade, Mozart’s Quartet in G Major, Charles Ives’s Second Quartet and Brahms’s Quartet in A Minor. The second brings Haydn, Barber and Tchaikovsky’s First Quartet.
