Andre Temkin was born in St. Petersburg and moved to Portland in 1995. In November 2006 he formed Chervona, which grew out of his earlier project Miru Mir!. The band plays original songs and Russian and Ukrainian folk hits of the late 19th century in a mix of Eastern European pop, polka, ska, punk and Romani folk. Chervona has played Oregon Country Fair, NW Folklife in Seattle, Victoria Ska Fest and Under the Volcano in Vancouver, and was profiled on OPB’s Oregon Art Beat in 2013. Its biggest show each year is the Old New Year party; the band also hosts an annual benefit for an animal shelter in Odesa.
