“My paintings are abstracted narratives weaving stories with autobiographical, conceptual or sociopolitical importance.”

She studied at Montclair State University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and took her MFA at California College of Arts and Crafts in 1982. Since the early 1980s she has worked in bronze, glass, photography and drawing; her career monograph, Material Evolution, appeared in 2018. Her bronze coyotes live in public: Beaverton Coyote, cast at Maiden Foundry in Sandy, was installed on the Crescent Connection Trail in 2019, and Palo Alto holds her Celestial Balls.

Since 2019 her main medium is paint — abstractions that each carry a story; Ukrainian Diaspora 2022 is built in the colours of the Ukrainian flag. She works from a studio in Northwest Portland, where Converge 45 hosted a conversation with Malia Jensen in June 2026.
