The Black Pirate is one of the first feature films shot in color, in early two-color Technicolor, and it has been added to the U.S. National Film Registry. Douglas Fairbanks, as the pirate, fences, climbs the rigging and leaps across the masts. The score for the screening was written by Rodney Sauer, leader of the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, and it is performed live. This is how silent films were watched a century ago — with music right there in the room.
