The English band Buzzcocks, formed in Bolton in 1976, fused punk speed with pop melody and in doing so inspired pop-punk and power pop. Band veteran Steve Diggle is 68, and of touring he says, “There’s still fire in the belly.” While many punk contemporaries tour old-hits sets like jukeboxes, Buzzcocks also draw a very young crowd. This is an anniversary that doesn’t feel like a veterans’ reunion.
