Kent Stowell and Francia Russell directed it from 1977 to 2005; Peter Boal has led it since 2005. Nearly fifty dancers give more than a hundred performances a year at McCaw Hall and on tour, from Europe, Australia and Taiwan to Jacob's Pillow and New York. Stowell's Swan Lake, in 1981, was the first full-length ballet re-created for the company.

In 2003 a revised staging, with sets by Ming Cho Lee and costumes by Paul Tazewell, opened PNB's first season at McCaw Hall. Francia Russell's staging follows Petipa and Ivanov, with the PNB Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky's score. Eleven performances run February 5–20, 2027, at McCaw Hall in Seattle.
