Cappella Romana opens its 35th anniversary season with Tongues of Fire. At St. Mary's Cathedral, the ensemble performs ancient Byzantine chant and contemporary works devoted to the feast of Pentecost. The centerpiece of the evening is the Teleftaion, a monumental 13th-century antiphon from the Kneeling Vespers service. The ensemble specializes in rare works from the Eastern Christian musical tradition.
