In 1936, two passionate American filmmakers set out to make a picture about the Spanish Civil War. They soon learn that their grand project is secretly funded by Soviet intelligence. Jen Silverman’s story is staged jointly by Profile Theatre, the Portland Opera company and musicians of the 45th Parallel ensemble. The result is a tense thriller with live opera and chamber music about the price of compromise in art.
