Salmon Spawning and Herman the Sturgeon
October 15 – December 6
Bonneville Fish Hatchery in the Columbia River Gorge is a place where in autumn you can see wild salmon returning to spawn with your own eyes. The main celebrity is Herman the sturgeon: more than ten feet long, over 440 pounds and nearly eighty years old. There are also trout ponds where visitors are allowed to feed the fish. A good half-day autumn outing with children.
